Muon-catalyzed fusion (μCF) is a process allowing nuclear fusion to take place at temperatures significantly lower than the temperatures required for thermonuclear fusion, even at room temperature or lower. Although it can be produced reliably with the right equipment and has been much studied, it is believed that the poor energy balance will prevent it from ever becoming a practical power source.


However, if muons (μ−) could be produced more efficiently, or if they could be used as catalysts more efficiently, the energy balance might improve enough for muon-catalyzed fusion to become a practical power source.


If muon-catalyzed d-t nuclear fusion were able to be realized practically, it would be a much cheaper way of generating power than conventional nuclear fission reactors because muon-catalyzed d-t nuclear fusion (like most other types of nuclear fusion), produces far fewer harmful (and far less long-lived) radioactive wastes, and hardly any greenhouse gases


But, there has been some issues with the reliability of this fusion for practical purposes:


One practical problem with the muon-catalyzed fusion process is that muons are unstable, decaying in about 2.2 µs (in their rest frame).[5] Hence, there needs to be some cheap means of producing muons, and the muons must be arranged to catalyze as many nuclear fusion reactions as possible before decaying.


and the other problem lies in the Alpha stickng procsess which means that not all of the muons are recycled, and too many bond with other debris emitted following the fusion of the nuclei removing the muons from the catalytic process. This gradually and ultimately chokes off the reactions (end snip)

In Light of the unfolding tradgedy in Japan, and the knowledge that it could also happen anywhere, this source of energy needs to be widley known.


It also needs to be brought out into the public arena and transparently looked at in detail to aviod confusion.


I am all for the end of Destuctive Nuclear Energy as we now know it, and any safer alternative would be better than the mess that has been created.


It could be used for good, but i'm concerned that the Money Powers who FUND this new technology, and who also have vested interests in, as well as invested so much money already in Mining, and "traditional" power generating facilities, maybe do not want a change until they figure out how to make EVEN more money out of it..I wouldn't put that past them.




I just hope all the scientists working in this field are decicated and wise enough to know that too.

Reactor feared in meltdown, radiation spreads
　
As dangerously high levels of radiation spread beyond the Fukushima exclusion zone in Japan, there are fears the race to contain the nuclear crisis has been lost and meltdown has already taken place.


Radiation measured at a village 40 kilometres from the Fukushima nuclear plant now exceeds a criterion for evacuation, the UN nuclear watchdog said.


And a Japanese nuclear expert has warned crews may have to keep pouring cooling water onto the stricken reactors for years.


The radiation finding increases pressure on Japan's government to extend the exclusion zone beyond 20 kilometres around the plant, which was hit by a huge earthquake and tsunami on March 11, knocking out the cooling system of the plant's six reactors and setting off explosions and fires.


Prime minister Naoto Kan says he is considering enlarging the evacuation area to force 130,000 people to move in addition to the 70,000 already displaced.


The indications are the most serious nuclear crisis in 25 years is getting worse.


Richard Lahey, head of safety research for this type of reactor at General Electric, which installed the reactors at Fukushima in the 1970s, says workers at the site appear to have lost the race to save the crippled No. 2 reactor.


The Guardian newspaper quotes him as saying he believes the reactor core has melted through the bottom of the pressure vessel and at least some of it is down on the concrete floor beneath.


This would mean in simple terms the accident is no longer a matter of melting fuel rods, but of meltdown.


That situation is reminiscent of Chernobyl where the plant needed to be covered with a concrete sarcophagus to seal it off.


However Dr Lahey says there is no danger of a Chernobyl-style catastrophe because in that case the plant exploded releasing a massive amount of radioactive steam.


The situation in Japan would still be immense environmental damage in the localised area.


Hiroto Sakashita, a nuclear reactor thermal hydraulics professor at Hokkaido University, says the other reactors and cooling ponds will take years to cool.


"They will just have to keep on pouring and pouring but contaminated water will keep leaking out," he told The New York Times.


Japan's Nuclear Safety Agency has confirmed radioactive iodine in the sea near Fukushima at 3,355 times the normal level.


Workers at the nuclear plant are planning to spray the grounds with a special resin designed to block radioactive materials from spreading into the soil, the sea and into the air.


Officials at the stricken plant are also planning to cover three badly damaged outer reactor buildings with special fabric caps and fit air filters to limit the release of radiation.


Another plan is to anchor an empty tanker off the No. 2 reactor so workers can pump huge volumes of radioactive water into its hull.


Japan, which has more than 50 reactors, has ordered an immediate check of them all to ensure there can be no repeat of the Fukushima crisis.


Industry minister Banri Kaieda has written to the CEOs of every nuclear power operator demanding they carry out drills to prepare staff for emergencies and urging them to ensure their plants have reliable back-up power for their cooling systems.


Meanwhile, IAEA head of nuclear safety and security Denis Flory says he has heard there might be "recriticality" at the Fukushima plant, in which a nuclear chain reaction would resume, even though the reactors were automatically shut down at the time of the quake.


He says this could lead to more radiation releases but it would not be "the end of the world".

YEMEN: More Connexions

A series of huge explosions at an ammunition plant in southern Yemen has killed at least 78 people, doctors say.


Yemen has been rocked by weeks of protests calling for President Ali Abdullah Saleh to step down.


At the time of Monday's blasts residents were in the plant looting ammunition. The dead included women and children, officials said.


It is not clear what caused Monday's explosions, which could be heard 10 miles (15km) away.


"This accident is a true catastrophe, the first of its kind in Abyan," a doctor told Reuters news agency. (end snip)

The war on terror is continuing in Yemen as the battle escalates and United States involvement grows by the day.


A new report released on Monday shows that the CIA has been involved in Yemen since 2008.


Digital Journal has been reporting for about a month of the increase in violence and civilian deaths in Yemen, United President Barack Obama’s devotion to the region by supplying the country with intelligence, weaponry and tens of million dollars in aid and prominent officials declaring that Yemen will be "tomorrow’s war."


A new report released shows that the US and the CIA have opened a covert operation in Yemen against al-Qaeda to assist the nation’s military operations. 


In 2008, the CIA sent field operatives, who have experience in counterterrorism, to the region.


The report further cites that the most secretive US special operations commandoes have begun training Yemeni security forces.


Press TV notes that the Pentagon will be spending over $70 million over the next 18 months to train and equip the country’s military, while Yemen’s national security chief earlier declared that the US has been providing Yemen with assistance to stop al-Qaeda. (end snip)

Yemen's embattled president accused the US, his closest ally, of instigating the mounting protests against him, but the gambit failed to slow the momentum for his ouster.

In a speech to about 500 students and lecturers at Sanaa University, he claimed the US, along with Israel, is behind the protest movement.

 "I am going to reveal a secret," he said.


"There is an operations room in Tel Aviv with the aim of destabilising the Arab world. The operations room is in Tel Aviv and run by the White House."

Fukushima Reactors Catastrophe: Radiation Exposure, Lies and Cover-up

"Should the public discover the true health cost[s] of nuclear pollution, a cry would rise from all parts of the world and people would refuse to cooperate passively with their own death." Dr. Rosalie Bertell. "No Immediate Danger," xiii.

I write this article not just as a long-time environmental writer and author, but also as a survivor of the horrific 2003 1-million-acre Southern California FIRESTORM that took many lives (both human and millions of animals) during the three-and-a-half-weeks of out-of-control blazes and 400-foot-high walls of flames throughout San Diego and Orange counties.

This nightmare blanketed a vast area from over the border into Tijuana up to just south of Los Angeles. Many "back county" areas and national and state parks were also destroyed. Hundreds of thousands of us could not evacuate because planes were grounded and the flames crossed over many freeways. Death and destruction continued for many years after.

Many of my friends have died since then, due to fire-related illnesses, as the entire area was blanketed with a spew of toxins. As with the tragedy of September 11th, when Christy Todd Whitman said New York’s air was okay, our local "public" officials refused to monitor the air. Finally, unable to breathe, even with a high-tech respirator, I called the county with warnings. San Diego air "quality" samples were posted for only three days and then conveniently disappeared.

Toxins were off the scale.


We had just 15 minutes to evacuate, when the helicopter flew overhead at 7 a.m. My entire neighborhood of 2,000 was destroyed, as well as 90 percent of all the wildlife! It was deliberately torched, and people and animals died. When we were finally allowed "home," all that was left was burn, ash, skeletons of trees, and hot soil. I know what it means, day-to-day, to just barely survive a countywide catastrophe.

I know what deep trauma is all about.

I know how everyone in charge lies and deceives those of us in extremis.

I know that when a place in the US is declared a "Federal Disaster" area, this quite literally means: "tough, you are on your own. There will be no help." My heart aches for the people in Japan who are directly in harm’s way, while their government continues to make nuclear corporate profits the priority over the safety of millions of Japanese.

It is criminal; and it happens all over.

During and for years after the FIRESTORM, public officials lied and deceived us. Insurance companies refused to honor thousands of policies, and many of us had to take them to court…but even the "justice" system is rigged. From the mayor and fire officials to the governor and a so-called "Blue Ribbon Commission," the 14 arson fires and their causes were all covered-up. No one was held accountable.

No one told us the truth.

Further, we barely had any real help in clean-up or recovery –even if we had insurance. Knee-deep in warm ash, I shoveled it myself over seven-and-a-half months, with only 5 days of help.

Thousands of us had to do it ourselves…even to getting our own Relief Center set up –again, because officials gave us the run-around.

A week-and-a-half into the Fukushima nuclear disaster, this is what is happening:

1. There are 4 reactors in various stages of collapse, releasing untold amount of dangerous radiation. Two more reactors may also be at risk.

2. The public generally has not been told that, in addition, there are 40 years of spent fuel rods on this already contaminated site. See:

3. Other fuel rods are fully exposed (meaning, unknown amounts of release of radiation) because they are no longer covered with the necessary 45-feet of water.

4. Last week the US refused to post online whatever radiation levels they were monitoring as radiation hits the West Coast and comes East. Then there were several reports that their monitors [all of them?] went off line, or crashed. It is doubtful that any official will report the truth. See:

Realistically, the Japanese catastrophe could last months or years, given the half-life of many radioactive particles. We don’t know, because no official or agency is reporting the truth, while we all are in danger of radiation exposure. How much? For how long? What kind (cesium, iodine, plutonium, strontium, uranium, all radioactive and each with different half life)? I think this catastrophe will turn out to be far worse than Chernobyl because again profits taken precedence over safety. See:

But we need much more collecting and reporting of radiation data. This is extremely urgent! Remember, for the past 12-15 years, our weather and air have been altered and deliberately manipulated. All along the Pacific Coast, from San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver, we need real-time radiation figures. This goes for Canada, too. We can post these results on this website and others, so we can have an accurate collective picture of the on-going radiation dangers we may be facing throughout North America. This is a highly dangerous, yet invisible and real threat to our safety and wellbeing –most especially for children who are most vulnerable! [I also remind readers that the ENTIRE Gulf of Mexico, and its nearby southern states, continues to be poisoned daily in an unmitigated crisis!]

From the very beginning, nuclear energy has been totally unsafe. Even early on in the 1950s, when there were nuclear tests in Nevada, citizens were never warned about the extreme toxicity and dangers to which they were exposed. For our entire lives, the nuclear industry has done decades-long media campaigns to give us misinformation and lies. It’s all about greed, but never about our safety or well-being. The US government has indemnified these companies, just as they have done with the pharmaceutical companies and their dangerous drugs. We are all expendable, except as uninformed consumers to buy their toxic products, and then for the next generation to repeat this insanity. With each new generation that is less well educated (dumbed-down, and often on prescription drugs from an early age), there is less information, no accountability, but millions more people who now are far more ill from an environment rife with thousands of poisons that surround our every move.

Some of the Nuclear Dangers include:

1. The reactors have design flaws, as does Fukushima’s Mark 1, built by GE. There are many of these same-designed reactors here in the US. On March 16, the NY Times reported some of these flaws. But, it is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg:

2. For radioactive nuclear waste, there is no safe or secure storage anywhere on this planet. There are 1,623 hazardous Superfund sites all over the US (such as Hanford Nuclear Reservation, built in 1942, near Richland, WA, and the now highly polluted Columbia River) leaking radioactive poisons on a daily basis for decades. There is another working nuclear facility, San Onofre, located between San Diego and Los Angeles along the beach right on the Pacific Ocean. This facility was built on the San Andreas fault, an active earthquake zone. The nuclear contamination is enormous and, every day, this puts us all at risk. Dr. Rosalie Bertell, one of the world’s leading authorities who has written extensively about the spectacular flaws and true costs of nuclear energy, notes: “The problem of secure storage of nuclear waste…remains dangerous for millennia.” [See also her quote at the beginning of this article.]

3. The half-life of many radioactive elements is thousands of years. There is no safe level of exposure! It’s all Orwellian media hype and corporate lies. The plutonium fuel used at Fukushima Unit 3 reactor uses MOX [mixed oxide], a plutonium-uranium fuel mixture. A single milligram of MOX is 2-million times more deadly that enriched uranium. NOTE: Plutonium-239 has a half-life of 24,000 years; and Uranium-235 has a half-life of 700-million years.

4. Hiroshima and Nagasaki Atomic bomb survivors are still being monitored. Birth defects, cancers, and miscarriages are high, just as these continue to be so at Chernobyl. This April 25, it will be 25 years since Chernobyl’s nuclear catastrophe. Sterility figures (for human and all other life) continue to increase. Nothing is healed. Nothing is fixed for millions of people. The children are most vulnerable, and suffer enormously.

5. The horrific on-going crisis in Iraq [an ancient culture was illegally invaded and destroyed!] is also greatly exacerbated due to US bombings of Depleted (Radioactive) Uranium, poisoning the entire population. Now, illness and birth defects are common throughout the entire Iraqi population. It is all for control of their oil. Afghanis were also illegally bombed with DU. Is Libya next with yet another illegal invasion and DU bombings? None of the real and tragic stories are ever reported by the mainstream corporate-controlled media. This is in violation of international law and the Geneva Conventions. This is heinous! However, it all is irrelevant how much harm is perpetrated on innocent civilian populations when criminals are in charge. War is big business, while the rest of our economy is in a state of deliberately orchestrated collapse.

Connecting the Dots of Harm

We Now have hideous and highly dangerous levels of radiation eminating from No 2 reactor which means that they are all..more than likely going to go down..This is not good.


And with the mixed Mox fuel, this scenario looks absolutley devestating..

The Guys that are in there are the bravest of the brave..

They knew what they were doing was potentially suicidal, they knew that they had to get in there and perhaps give the ultimate sacrifice for their beloved country and people.

Workers evacuated as radiation soars at Japan reactor

Extremely high levels of radiation were detected in water leaking from reactor two of the stricken Fukushima nuclear plant, forcing the evacuation of workers, its operator said Sunday.

A spokesman for Tokyo Electric Power (TEPCO) said the level of radiation found in the leaked water in the turbine room was 10 million times higher than it should be for water inside the reactor, indicating damage to the fuel rods."We detected 1,000 millisieverts per hour of radiation in a puddle of water at the reactor number two.

This figure is 10 million times higher than water usually kept in a reactor," the spokesman said. "We are examining the cause of this, but no work is being done there because of the high level of radiation.
"High levels of caesium and other substances are being detected, which usually should not be found in reactor water.

There is a high possibility that fuel rods are being damaged."A single dose of 1,000 millisieverts can cause temporary radiation sickness, including nausea and vomiting.

An exposure of 100 millisieverts per year is considered the lowest level at which an increase in cancer risk is evident.

"It is an extremely high figure," nuclear safety agency spokesman Hidehiko Nishiyama said of the latest reading of radioactivity.

"There is high possibility that (the water) came from the reactor," he said.

Last week three workers with inadequate protection for their feet suffered burns when they stepped in highly radioactive water at reactor three.

The trio, aged in their 20s and 30s, were placing electric cables in a basement as part of efforts to rebuild cooling systems at the quake and tsunami damaged reactor three to prevent high-level radiation from spewing out.


Two of the men, who were employed by a subcontractor, were hospitalised after suffering radiation burns from beta rays, which are powerful enough to transform a person's DNA makeup and cause potential cancer and death.

All were exposed to radiation of up to 180 millisieverts -- more than triple the usual limit for plant workers and close to the recently hiked government-imposed 250 millisievert limit for emergency duty.

A total of 17 workers have been exposed to more than 100 millisieverts of radiation at the plant.

The radiation level was 1,000 millisieverts per hour, making it too dangerous to remain at the reactor turbine building and forcing the evacuation of workers there, plant operator Tokyo Electric Power said.


"It is an extremely high figure," nuclear safety agency spokesman Hidehiko Nishiyama said of the latest reading. "There is a high possibility that (the water) came from the reactor."


Some 500 workers with TEPCO and its subsidiaries, as well as an army of firefighters and soldiers, are working to bring the plant under control.

Getting Away With Murder.

Getting Away With Murder:

Some people enjoy causing misery and suffering for others. We think some of these people are evil. We think some of them are psychopaths or sociopaths. They routinely abuse people in daily life. They display inappropriate emotional responses. They lie about matters large and small.

We think these people are rather common, perhaps roughly one in twenty persons. For the most part, these are simply the assholes we all have to deal with. It behooves us to recognize them and know how to deal with them.

Some of these people possess enough intelligence to rise to powerful positions from which to abuse large numbers of people. In his page titled The Types of Evil Personalities, R. Canup posits that the evil person of above average intelligence perceives an opportunity:


These people have a similar goal to evil people of average intelligence; the production of human misery. However these people see the opportunity to do something that evil people of normal intelligence don't see how to do; murder someone and get away with it.

They understand that the way to murder someone and get away with it is to not care who they kill, how they kill them, or when they kill them. Such people set up conditions where someone will be 'accidentally' killed and wait for the circumstances to occur.

An excellent example of this occurred at the Vancouver Olympics, when a luge athlete crashed and died on a course designed and marketed for it's high speed. After the athlete died, an accident that should have been foreseen and prevented by those who designed and built the course, nobody seemed to be responsible because accountability had been compartmentalized.

How would people go about getting away with mass murder? Very carefully. Patiently.See: and one day the owner came home and was gravely disappointed

The evil are patient. Evil people in positions of power have many tools at their disposal to murder people. But they still have to do lots of planning and be patient in order to get away with it.
Work slowly.
Start and stop.
Small doses.
It doesn't matter who dies as long as people die.
Express regret.
Repeat.

If you take this sort of thinking, this type of understanding, and apply it to what is happening in the world, you can begin to grasp the scope of the evil around us. If you understand the sorts of things kept secret, such as technologies and agreements, even if you don't know the specific things themselves, you can begin to grasp what is going on, realizing that evil people would like to kill as many people as possible, and get away with it.They have been succeeding.

Are many people dying around the world from intractable wars, illegal drugs, corporate malfeasance, street violence, hunger, disasters, accidents, terrorism? Yes.

Has anyone of consequence been held accountable? No.

That does not happen by accident. That takes planning. That takes secret technologies. That takes media ownership and message discipline. That takes wars and armies. That takes poison. That takes a lot of unfortunate "human errors" and "accidents" and "incompetence" and "Acts of God."

That also takes many naive people who watch the news and fail to notice things and connect dots. For example, doesn't it seem that after every disaster, aid fails to reach the people in need? Does anyone question how this can be, how the learning curve for post-disaster management remains inexplicably steep, time after time?
